Significance of baba

Although Baba is seldom describe in details in the Novel “Clear Light of Day” By Anita Desai and he plays an isolated character he has a very profound part to play, he is at the center of Bimla’s life. Because of his mental and physical state she stayed with him to tend to him because he was her baby brother. It was because of him that she didn’t get married like all other traditional Hindu girls, Moreover it was because of him to an extent that resents all things that were traditional.
As time, culture, society and everyone else changes around him. He didn’t instead he was seen as the perpetual baby that would never grow up. And because he never changed that same principle can be applied to Bimla, as well even the house that they lived in remain the same. Additionally Baba can be said to be adhesive that holds the family together to a certain extent. If he wasn’t born with such deficiencies or being existing I think Raja and Tara would have forgotten abut Bimla completely. No visits or any connection at all. As such Baba is significant
